Sphero Game

In DTE we have been learning to code using a variety of programs. At the start of the topic, we used a web program called RobotMagic in which we coded a robot called Bob to do tasks we are assigned to do. It was an entrance to block code, which we would be using to command Sphero's

Spheros are little robot spheres that are commanded by many different types of code. You download the app on a mobile device such as an Ipad or phone, and you can control it from there. At the start of using them, we controlled the spheros manually via the app where we could use a joystick sort of control and we could change the colour. After we moved onto coding. We started with block coding and went through some activities wherein the first activity we learnt the basics of coding. Then in the following activities, we made games that we played. We made two games, a toss game where you had to throw the sphero and whoever held it after the tenth or so toss was out, and a hot potato game where the game is similar to the toss game but there was a time limit. Then we were given another task, make our own game. Here is mine:

The game I plan to make is a game where you have to roll the ball to another person manually as many times as you can in 60 seconds. However, if the roll hits over 3G’s, then you lose.

The program goes

Stabilizer: Off
Loop Forever
If Total Accelerometer > 3 Then
  Play Fail Sound and Wait
Strobe Red for 0.2s 10 Times
Raw Motor left 255 right 255 fr 5s
 Else
  Main LED Blue

The program uses an if then else statement so that if the total accelerometer (X, Y, Z) exceeds 3 g’s then play the fail scenario but the else statement keeps on going

I've enjoyed playing with the spheros this term and I am excited about moving on to the next topic. Next time I want to work with people to create a game together and/or combine the games.

Thank you for reading my blog, please give feedback as it helps my learning

WTF?????!!!!!!! MY COMPUTER JUST DID THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!111!!!!!!!

In DTE we have been doing various things. We started the term by creating a site for our DTE work. It contains most of what we have done over the course of the term. It is created by google sites and is kinda average

Next, we created an infographic about Ergonomics. Ergonomics is a study of workplace efficiency and how it can be more efficient. I used Venngage to create my ergonomic. I had a lot of fun creating it and it was the first time I had used Venngage to create something so I was glad that it was very easy to use

In our third lesson, we played a game called Interland. It was a game that teaches people about cyber-bullying. It is quite a fun game and carries a good message. Interland is about internet safety and not getting trapped by bullies. There are different levels, and these are a couple of them
Reality River: Teaches you some of the signs of a possible scam, such as receiving an e-mail from some you never heard of or a relative you didn't know had a computer.
Mindful Mountain: Teaches you what people you should send different kinds of messages to, such as video you and your friends made, it should be sent to those friends.
Interland is an overall pretty good game. It helps send important messages in a way people will understand.

Our fourth lesson brought me back to Venngage to make another infographic about cyber-safety and a website that focuses on how to be cyber smart. The site is called Uru Manuka. It is a cool site and if you want to be more cyber smart the check it out:https://sites.google.com/a/manaiakalani.org/cybersmart/home

And last so far for the term we have been doing a project on a site called Digital Bytes, Here is what I wrote:

News Literacy

What part of this video struck you the most: The part of the video that struck me the most would be the
part where it was talking about how a lot of online news sources were changing to personalise who gets
what news. I think all news sources should just show people the really important stuff otherwise people
will misleading news

News Literacy Video B
1. The purpose of journalism is to inform people of what is happening so they can have an understanding
of what to do
2. A couple of years ago my mum read somewhere (not sure where) that Indycar driver Scott Dixon had
retired from racing. The way she recovered the truth is when the first race was on and Scott Dixon was
racing. He later won the championship for the 5th time
3. You can tell if a news story is true if any other news sites have covered it. Some stories will seem like
they should be headlines around the world but they are only covered by one site
4. The repercussion for someone who provides fake news is an interesting scenario. My friends and I
were talking about it the other day and a couple of times one said the death sentence. I think the penalty
should be a fine of anywhere from 20 to 60% of that person's income and suspension of around 2 - 3 years
5. I haven’t heard this quote through the news but my very smart friend Nathan says it sometimes
6. Fake news sites are annoying, however, the onion admits that it is built solely for satirical purposes

I had a lot of fun this term with DTE and I look forward to next term with Mr Carter
