The Physics of Tug of war

Force=Mass x Acceleration

Prediction
I think that the Concrete will create the most friction because it is not a wet surface.

High Impact Car Race Results

What did we do? We had a few weeks to modify and test our car for the races. We had to think about what could make it faster, what would make it go the furthermost and what would make it slow down quickly. Finally, we had the races. We had 5 minutes before the race to modify especially for that race.

How was it fair? We all had access to the same materials, we had the same model of car (Tesla Model S) and we were racing on the same track

What were the races? The races were who could go the fastest down the ramp, who could slow down before the line and who could drive the furthest.

Retell in the order it happened in: First, we did the who's car could go the fastest down the ramp. My times were 1.60 and 1.40. Then we did the who could stop closest to the line. I wasn't the closest to the line. The first run I got close. But the second time I flipped over. Third, we did the who can go the longest. My first run I got 1.66 metres. My second run it did not count because I flipped. So basically I got 0. The longest run was car 7 with a score of 4.97. The shortest run was car 4 with a run of 0.63.

The effects of my modifications

I added this spoiler to create downforce to keep it straight so it wouldn't crash into the sides to lose speed. Though it didn't work like I planned
This design was used for the second run. The front of the car was designed to slow it down at the end of the ramp and the would've lost its momentum would stop it. The plan somewhat worked
This design was to spread the weight evenly and not make the lose momentum and go a long distance

Physics of car: Race Day

The first run we did was the fastest. We got 1.60 then 1.40. Our average was 1.5. We forgot to take a picture of our car.

The second run we did was who can stop first. Let me just, it wasn't me.The front lip spoiler hit the ground and we flipped. This is a picture of our car for the second run:

The third run is the furthest. We got as far as 1.66 meters. This what are car looked like:
We did it at an angle of 28 degrees

Physics of car racing

What I tried today: I tried adding a spoiler and a lip spoiler onto our car for downforce.

What happened when I tried it: When I tried the spoiler and the lip spoiler the car went fast down the slope and slow down when it lost its momentum.

What will I try next time: Next time I will have a go at the new dragon style addition seems that they will work.

What research did we do: We researched what kind if additions they have on sprint cars and why they work

1.What has been done to make this a 'fair test'? We have all gotten the same car, the same materials and the same track to race on

2.What forces are needed to make the car go faster and how have modified your car to go accordingly? We need gravity for the slope and we have added a spoiler for downforce and it will hopefully keep it straight

3.What forces are needed to help the car stop and how have you modified your car to go accordingly? We have added wings for drag and the drag will hopefully slow the car down

4. What forces are needed to help the car go further and how have you modified your car to go accordingly? We need thrust to push our car and we have added a front lip spoiler to increase aerodynamics

CARS

  1.  What problems does our car have?: The centre of gravity is near the back so it tips backwards. We will correct it by adding anchor points to the front
  2. How do you think you can make your car go faster?: By adding a larger tail fin to add downforce
  3. How do you think you will slow your car down?: Make little wings for air resistance
  4. What equipment will be needed?: Cardboard, Paper and Tape

30 degrees is the ideal angle

this is the car originally

We are attempting to add a spoiler and some wings for drag

We added this dank as spoiler on it

We have added a new spoiler on to it

What is a Simple Machine

  • A machine is a system that changes the relationship between effort (the force applied) and load (the weight lifted or moved)
  • Machines make our lives easier
  • Machines help us to lift, push, pull, turn, cut and join things
  • Wheels, rollers, levers, gears, and pulleys all make it easier to move a heavy load by reducing friction or magnifying forces

Push or Pull?

What have I learned?
I learned that there so many different forces and that most of them are under these two categories, Push and Pull

How this shows my learning
This shows my learning by showing that I took the time to create and explain what is on this diagram and why these are push and pulls

Something I am wondering
I am wondering how many different force categories there are what they are
