English - Diverstity

In English, we have been learning about the meaning of stories and what the director wants us to see in the story

I think we are learning about this because it is important to understand different points of view

The Willow Maid by Erutan helped me understand that just because someone wants to do something, it doesn’t mean the other does

Disney’s Tarzan  helped me to understand that it is difficult for some people to accept others into groups

Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Great Divide could be connected to Tarzan as it is another case of people struggling to work with others and accept them into their group

Barriers by Hinewirangi helped me to understand that different languages can make people struggle to pronounce names and other words, but you shouldn't give up trying

The Seahorse and the Reef by Witi Ihimaera helped me to understand that some places are important to some and those places get ruined by the greed of others

Butterflies by Patricia Grace  helped me to understand people coming from different backgrounds often have conflicting ideas and usually, neither will admit theirs is worse

CW’s Supergirl, Welcome to Earth made me think about how people treat others that come from different places and often make up names for them like Aliens

Disney’s Zootopia made me think about the way people treat others based on stereotypes

The Taming of the Shrew by Shakespeare helped me to understand that in the past people were treated a lot differently and were not listened to often

The Bee Movie can be connected to Tarzan because it was hard for humans to accept Barry B Benson into their world

4 Things Covered in The Recent Topic

In the recent topic, we have been learning about Genetics and Evolution
Here are 4 of the things that we covered in this topic

1.Chromosomes: Chromosomes are made up of DNA and are received half and half from each parent. In each cell, there are 46 Chromosomes and 23 are received from each parent. They are found in the nucleus

2.Alleles: Alleles are an alternate form of genes that come in dominant and recessive forms. Dominant is marked by a Capital letter and Recessive by lower-case.

3.Punnett Squares: Punnett Squares are used to look at how people get their genes from their parents. Example:
Image result for punnett square

4. Vestigial Structures: Vestigial structures are something used by somethings ancestors that is no longer useful but is still remaining. Examples of this are the wings of a kiwi, human tail-bones and the human appendix

Thanks for reading the blog and please comment as it is helpful feedback and it is good for my learning

Zootopia Essay

This is my essay from english this term

Introduction

Zootopia is a movie that came out in 2016 to mixed reviews. It was directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore and produced by Disney. It is based around a city that is home to millions of animals, including a rabbit that aspires to be a police officer. She sees Zootopia as a massive paradise for all. But when she moves to Zootopia, she finds out how wrong she was. In this essay, I’m going to talk about one of the areas that was important to the story-line and how it related to the rest of the movie by being very busy, the rainforest district. I’ll talk about when Judy is on the train to Zootopia, when they chased the jaguar through the forest, and when Chief Bogo asks for Judy's badge.

Paragraph One

The scene is lead into when Judy is training to become a police officer and continuously failing. This scene includes her having to navigate through a rainforest segment. After a tearful goodbye with her parents, Judy Hopps (get it, cause her name is Judy Hopps) on the train and it sets off for the city. As she is on the train, it blasts through some of the suburbs and districts of zootopia. One of these is the rainforest district. It only comes up for a minute or so, but there is much to be seen. It includes the train coming out of a tunnel hidden by a waterfall, leading into the train going across a bridge that speeds into the rest of the town. This scene shows a large lake with houseboats on it, proving that the residents don’t need normal places to live. Next the train heads under a system of sprinklers which spray over the town giving it the effect of a rainforest. The train then heads under some of the trees that the residents of the district live in. It is after this that the train leaves the rainforest district, thus ending the scene

Paragraph Two

Later in the movie, Judy and Nick ( a fox that she blackmailed into coming with her) find out that the limo driver was a jaguar that lives in the rainforest district, so they go to ask him some questions. As they arrive at Manchas’ (his name is Manchas) house, there is a wide shot of the rainforest district. It is a very complex area and is covered in lush vegetation and trees. The scene contains lots of information about how well the city tries to accommodate all animals living there. A prominent feature is the sprinklers that spray the ground to give it the effect of a rainforest. They begin to talk to Manchas and he tells them to go away and closes the door on them. They talk to each other outside and are interrupted when they hear a racket inside. They bust in to check it out, but only find everything thrown and broken. All of a sudden Manchas jumps down and starts chasing them through the rainforest. A lot of the things they jump on have already been seen, but one thing is a balloon/blimp sort of thing that is flying low over a river. There is a draw-bridge that opens up so that the blimp can fly past. They go past this and into a twisty section full of vines and thorns, while Manchas does not let of the pace. The eventually end up on a bridge that sits over a river after a waterfall drop. Judy and Nick tie up Manchas with chains, but Manchas takes one final lunge at the pair, which scares them of the bridge into the water below and into the next scene.

Paragraph Three

After having called for backup, Judy and nick wait in a dark and gloomy rainforest, contemplating what they just went through. In the background, the waterfall makes a loud sound as the water meets the bottom. Backup eventually arrives and they go up to the bridge where they captured Manchas. Only to discover he has gone. The chief thinks Nick and Judy have wasted his time and asks for Judy’s badge. The shock of this recall is heard as everyone is silent and the chirping of the crickets is faintly heard among the waterfall. Nick reminds Bogo that there is still time left and the chief lets them off. Judy and Nick leave via the Mountain Lift and it looks over the district as the sun rises, seeing the blimp balloon and many houseboats along the way. They recount stories of them being stereotyped because of what animal they are, and as the scene ends it looks over a roundabout which is already in a traffic jam.

Conclusion

Zootopia is a movie in which many things are happening in the background of the main movie. One of the busiest places is the rainforest district. This is shown in the opening train ride when there are houseboats all over the water, in the chase scene when the cars had to stop on a bridge to let a blimp balloon through, and in the scene where chief bogo asks for judys badge as it is sunrise and already a traffic jam. This a recurring theme throughout the movie and is done quite well by the screenwriters.
